Susanna Sonnenberg has over 30 years of teaching experience on violin, viola and cello in private lessons, small groups, large groups and school orchestra settings grades 1 -12.  Additionally, Susanna has worked with adult students of all ages and all levels.  Currently, she runs her own studio and is teaching weekly  private lessons online and in person from her home.  She offers 30, 45, 60, 75 or 90 minute lessons. 

Susanna Sonnenberg helps students learn how to play their instrument, read music, understand music theory and music history, and to improve their playing abilities on violin, viola, and cello.  In addition she has successfully prepared students to audition for school orchestras, youth orchestras, community orchestras, competitions, college auditions, NAFME/ASTA/PMEA events and to play for their own enjoyment. 

She provides traditional classical training on violin, viola, and cello.  She works with  students to improve their technique, posture, music reading skills, counting, intonation, phrasing, bowing, positions and  and shares her passion for music.  In addition, she will provide instruction on music theory and music history as part of instrumental lessons as it applies.

Susanna received her training at State University of New York at Purchase in 1991, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music.  In 1995, she earned her Music Education K-12 Certification from Carnegie Mellon University.  In 2000, she attended the  University of Denver, Lamont School of Music where she earned a Master in Music.  She has studied with Sol Grietzer, Karen Dreyfus and Basil Vendryes.   In addition, Susanna earned a Master of School Administration in 2012 from East Carolina University.

As an expert in her field, Susanna looks forward to helping her students achieve their goals.  Her teaching style is positive, supportive, patient and constructive, focused on the individual student's needs, and enjoyable.  She will work at your pace and cares about each of her students.  Susanna works with students from ages 5 through adults and believes you are never too old to learn.  

Susanna recommends weekly lessons for all students.   She can provide information on purchasing or renting an instrument, if needed.
